The Tabor After-School Program operates Monday – Friday, 3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. throughout the school year. Students struggling with reading receive 1 on 1literacy training and are tested 3 times a year for their Instructional Reading Levels (IRL). Immigrant Children and ESL children especially benefit from our program and staff which includes 3 bi-lingual tutors. One-third of our student body speaks English as a second language. Our tests over several years have shown that students who are part of our literacy program consistently improve their reading proficiency at higher than the national average. They also improve their overall school performance significantly. In the last school year (2008/2009) we added the following Special Program Features...
- The Read and Keep program (Students read a book, write a report and keep it if they like it. The books were donated by various sources.)
- Library Time: Once a week, the older and the younger students get separate time with the librarian at the local Feltonville branch
- Ballroom dancing and modern dance: An extracurricular, fun activity facilitated by ASAP
- Nutritional Instruction
- Character Development: Weekly recognition of traits like honesty, effort, community service, conflict-resolution etc. through a Token Economy reward system.
